Today we held our Key Stage 2 Smart awards assembly for Autumn term.
The Smart Award is based on the work by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. Dr Howard developed the theory of Multiple Intelligences in 1983 to help educators, psychologists and parenting experts better understand how children process and learn information.
Instead of having one intelligence it is claimed that we have several different intelligences.
These are listed below:
Kinaesthetic - Body Smart
Linguistic - Word Smart
Logical - Number Smart
Interpersonal - People Smart
Intrapersonal - Caring Smart
Musical - Music Smart
Visual/Spatial - Picture Smart
Naturalistic - Nature Smart
We have added our own versions of Smart to reflect the curriculum and skills / qualities that we want to promote in school.
Speaking and Listening Smart
Teachers award a Smart to children who have demonstrated a particular strength, enthusiasm/passion for or improvement in a particular area over the course of the term.
